An Bang Beach Story

During my Vietnam Trip in Hoi An, I met a new friend from the US who was travelling in Vietnam. We visited the beach not far from Hoi An old town called An Bang beach.

He studied Marine Biology in California. I’ve learned many things from him about plastic pollution. There’s plastic pollution that isn’t as easy to see, because of its size. Microplastics, or tiny pieces of plastic are created when bigger bits of plastic are broken down by waves or degraded by the sun. Even if we cleaned plastic trashes, there would still be small pieces of plastic left because they are very tiny.

I’m really interested in listening about microplastics, especially microplastics from our clothes.

Yes!

PLASTICS FROM CLOTHING!

Some clothing industrial products are included petroleum based plastics and we wash these MICRO PLASTIC pieces into the ocean every day! There’s many marine animals in the ocean eating plastic. We know that animals eat each other, and that they also eat the stuff that is inside each other. — Plankton eats tiny plastic pieces, fish eat plankton and tiny plastic pieces and human eats fish and tiny plastic pieces by step. This is how micro plastics make their way up the ocean food chain.

On this trip, I’ve learned new things from new people I met. He makes me interested about avoiding the use of plastics in daily life and I have a new perspective on caring for the environment more than I used to.

This is the reason I love about travelling! Because I always learn something new… It’s amazing seeing the same old world through my new eyes!
