UNTOUCHED town in Northeastern Thailand

Have you ever heard about Chiang Khan before?

Chiang Khan is a cozy small town nearby Mekhong River in Northeast of Thailand located in Loei province. The other side of Mekhong River is Ban Sanakham, Vientiane, Laos.

I arrived here in the afternoon and checked-in at the guest house, every building and house here are Isaan style (Isaan is the north-eastern part of Thailand) wooden houses. I love chilling at the balcony and enjoy this old town view…

Almsgiving Ceremony

Every day in the early morning, people in the town are having the Almsgiving Ceremony. The Buddhist tradition that people preparing goods depends on what you have, such as food, sticky rice, snacks, bakeries to give them to the monks. Along the street you can find the spot that sells Almsgiving sets that already prepared by local that you can pay and do the Almsgiving at the spot that prepared.

This early morning ceremony is very similar to the Morning Almsgiving Ceremony in Luang Prabang, Laos because both shared the same culture’s root along the Mekong River.

Old temple in Chiang Khan

Wat Mahathat Temple, was bult in the same period as Chiang Khan in 2197BE (1654). There’s also historical paintings on the wall and wooden Buddha in the hall next to the building in the picture.

Dressed up in Mekong River Style

I bought these Luang Prabang style breast-cloth and Isaan style Sarong from the night market the night before just to wear them for Almsgiving like a local but I guess this is a little too much compared to the locals. But I really love my outfit today.

Sunset at Mekong River

I never met sunset I didn’t like…

The Mekong River Sunsets are always my favourite. I was born and grew up in this region, northeast part of Thailand and very fond with Mekong River. When I see this river anywhere, even when it’s Mekong River outside of Thailand I still feel like home.

Met a lot of new (kitty) friends

For those who love animals especially cat lover, you should visit Chiang Khan because it’s so many cute kittens here. During my dinner at a restaurant I met black and white one asking me for fried fish. During a walk along the river in the morning I found an orange tabby and then this black cat in the picture came to play.

And the last one, an orange tabby cat the owner of the cafe called “Husband & Wife Cafe”

Finally, thank you for reading until the end. I’m really appreciate…
